What to Do When it Rains in Disney World

rainy disney

Experiencing bad weather during a much anticipated vacation is disappointing for sure.  But if you are in Disney World, there are still a lot of things you can do!  So grab your poncho, waterproof shoes, and head out!

  1. Still enjoy the parks! Most people don’t know what to do when it rains and avoid the parks.  This makes the lines to the rides and attractions almost nonexistent.
  2. Have a leisurely lunch and take a nap.  Everyone needs a little down time while on a Disney vacation so use the day to recharge yourself, not just your phone.
  3. Visit Disney Springs.  It’s a great day to fit in your shopping so you’re not wasting valuable park time picking up your souvenirs later on.
  4. Resort hop on the monorail!  You can visit the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, and Polynesian.  You can easily spend a couple hours wandering around the lobbies, shops, and bars.  And maybe start dreaming of your next Disney trip!
  5. Which leads me to my next suggestion… is there a resort that you would like to stay at next time that you’ve always wondered about?  Head over there to check it out!  What’s better than getting a preview of your next Disney vacation?
  6. SPA time ~ think about scheduling a massage or spa treatment.  Visit your resort’s concierge who can help you with that.
  7. Check and see if reservations opened up for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or Pirates League.  Some guests will cancel their reservations when they see the weather forecast so you may get lucky!
  8. Enjoy High Tea at Disney’s Grand Floridian.  You can warm up with some hot imported tea and a scone, pastry, or tea sandwich in elegant surroundings.
  9. Take the family bowling at Splittsville.
  10. If you’re traveling without the kids, go bar hopping!
  11. Depending on the severity of the weather, visit Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.  As long as there isn’t any threat of thunderstorms, they will be open and empty!  You’re getting wet anyway so what’s a little drizzle?
  12. Collect Resort Pressed Pennies ~ another reason to resort hop!  You can check out the resorts and the kids can collect pennies.  Each resort has a unique penny machine that has pennies you won’t find anywhere else.  So hop a boat or take the monorail and visit as many as you can!

No matter what you decide to do during a rainy spell at Disney World, just keep one thing in mind:  A rainy day at Disney is better than a sunny day at the office.
