It’s always been a dream of mine to stay in Bermuda for an extended amount of time. In fact, my perfect honeymoon would have been to spend a MONTH in Bermuda so I could “pretend” I was fortunate enough to live there! But alas, that wasn’t in a young couple’s budget.
So far I have only cruised to Bermuda, including my honeymoon. While I’ve visited more than 15 times (2 times with my husband plus 2 additional times with our daughters, countless times with my family, and even SOLO once), I’ve only ever had my heart ache while standing at a ship’s railing. Sadly watching more and more water separate the ship from the shore is no fun. Is it worse watching the island disappear from sight out of an airplane window? I don’t know but I’m willing to investigate!
I’ve seen many of Bermuda’s hotels over the years, peering out the pink bus window or over my shoulder on the back of a moped, always wondering where I might stay someday. So here are my top picks for when we’re ready take that 90-minute flight to Bermuda!
1. Elbow Beach It is located directly on the beautiful South Shore. It has a half-mile long pink sand beach, 4 restaurants, an Asian-inspired spa and 98 modern suites. They even offer complimentary Dark and Stormy kits! (If you don’t know what a Dark and Stormy is, I’ll leave it to you to find out.)
2. Fairmont Southampton At a very close second, it’s spread over 100 acres and the sister hotel to the Hamilton Princess hotel, it sits beyond the half-moon beach where it’s private beach club is located. There is beachfront tennis, a huge spa, and the 18-hole Turtle Hill golf course on property. (Did you know Bermuda has more golf courses per square mile than anywhere else in the world?) They also have a ferry, exclusive to hotel guests, that takes you on the 25-minute scenic ride to Hamilton!
3. Hamilton Princess A classic Bermuda hotel with a 133-year old history. It was the host hotel during the America’s Cup last year. A pink hotel within walking distance to town and it’s many shops and restaurants. It’s fully upgraded with 458 rooms and suites. I’ve sailed past it so many times, always wishing I was a guest there!
4. The Reefs Resort and Club When you arrive at The Reefs, you’ll receive the island’s national cocktail, the Rum Swizzle. It’s a 65-room boutique hotel located on a cliff with it’s own quiet cove beach below. Imagine being in that pool!
5. Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa An adults only “cottage colony” with modern amenities like WiFi and marble bathrooms with traditional touches like afternoon tea. Bermuda is British after all. It’s both elegant and easygoing.
6. Rosewood Tucker’s Point Not for the budget traveler but luxurious and posh just the same! It also has 4 restaurants, 3 pools, and perhaps the best spa on the island. 88 plush rooms and suites overlook Castle Harbor.
7. The Loren at Pink Beach Making its debut in 2017, The Loren has 45 suites, all with floor to ceiling oceanfront views. Located in Tucker’s Town, the most exclusive area in Bermuda, it’s considered a luxury boutique property as well. It has 2 restaurants and 2 pools.
8. Grotto Bay Beach Resort The island’s only true all-inclusive resort. The beachfront resort winds through 21 acres of flowering gardens along the ocean. It includes three meals, non-motorized water sports such as paddleboats and snorkeling equipment, ferries and bus passes (super important), tennis courts, and weekly rum parties with a swim-up bar. It’s also where you can go to Prosperoβs Cave – a spa that is set inside a natural cave!!
Let me know which hotel you think looks the most inviting! And who knows, maybe I’ll see you at sunset in Bermuda!
