Hawaii is a far off destination for those of us living on the east coast. How does one decide which islands to visit? And arranging flights on “puddle jumpers” may not be appealing to some. Why not enjoy the benefits of a luxurious cruise while traveling from island to island… making the most of your Hawaiian trip in a short amount of time.
Let me tell you about Norwegian Cruise Line’s convenient 7-night cruise that sails year round. The ship is the Pride of America.
The cruise begins and ends in Honolulu. It’s the only ship belonging to a major cruise line that can visit the Hawaii islands without stopping in a foreign port. There is a century old law preventing ships of foreign registry from sailing from one U.S. port to another U.S. port without visiting a foreign port, called the Jones Act. The Pride of America sails under a U.S. Flag. (Most other cruise ships are registered in the Bahamas, but also places like Bermuda, Italy, and the Netherlands.) NCL was given special permission to let the Pride of America be registered in the United States in 2003. While other cruise ships will sail the Hawaiian islands, they typically leave from the west coast with a port being in Mexico or Canada. With the Pride of America, you don’t need 5 days at sea to reach the Hawaiian islands. You just fly to Honolulu, board the ship, visit the islands, and then fly home from Honolulu, when you’re ready of course.
